On June 25th, 2017, Jason Kessler was a lesser-known activist based out of Charlottesville, Virginia, who attended a right-wing "Free Speech Rally" at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. Carrying a confederate flag, he was confronted by Don Folden, the founder "DC Black Tours." {{embed|t=qiIe_1546822620}} The disagreement went on for about three minutes, and mostly focused around the subject of slavery and the confederacy. Folden insisted that Kessler meet with him to learn black history, given Kessler's affinity for Confederate iconography. Two months later, Kessler's "Unite the Right" rally took place in Charlottesville, leaving three dead. Folden has since then continued to establish his business, even being profiled by the Washington Post for not "shying away from the painful parts of DC's black history." https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/this-tour-guide-doesnt-shy-away-from-the-painful-parts-of-dcs-black-history/2018/06/04/d6bc2a48-53a8-11e8-a551-5b648abe29ef_story.html On Sunday, Folden and Kessler met for that conversation. The two sat down outside Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, a site used as a stop on the Underground Railroad. The two intended to have a discussion, which often wavered into debate. ABC7's Sam Ford and News2Share's Ford Fischer were the two journalists in attendance.
