Following info found with this video:
This happened last Sunday in La Huacana Michoacan. A group of soldiers was doing a disarmament operation in the zone and took several high caliber guns from an alleged self-defense group (these are groups from people that defend their communities from several threats including cartels, robbers and so on, and are located in several states in M'exico). The citizens didn't allow them to take their guns so they disarmed and subdued them, only to release them hours later as there were some injured. Our gun laws are really restrictive, so we cannot have high caliber guns as those are solely for military use. However, there are some places were militia doesn't even show up, so this kind of strategies (self - defense groups) have been occurring since 2008. Its a really complicated situation, the military, and the police are in charge of providing security to the citizens, but when they don't, other solutions have to be found.
Spanish speaker here: He just kept repeating to drop your weapons. The civilian keeps saying drop your weapons. At 0:52. Civilian reassured soldier that nothing will happen to him to let go of the gun. Then he instructs another civilian not to hit the soldier.
Mexican actually living in Mexico here. The military has orders (from the president) to not engage, detain or harm "civilians" if they are confronted this way. The people here on the video, stopped and (unlawfully) detained the military personnel because they seized illegal weapons (from those people on the video) that are of exclusive use of the military, they even seized a 50mm cal. machine gun... imagine that... these people are part of a group called "autodefensas" or "self-defense" which is a civil group that armed themselves (unlawfully) to defend and fight for their land against the narcos in Michoacan (hot land they call it because obvious reasons as you can see) that demand payments for protection, they kidnap or they just go into your house and tell you to GTFO because they just want your land or house... now, this has two stories because some (many) autodefensas people have joined the narcos . Whose side they're on? Who knows... but these things are happening and are just unbelievable... there's no law anymore on some small towns. This is why Mexico is so dangerous in some places.
